The tradition of Orthodox processions is included in the National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Finland.
This happened in the jubilee year in which the Finnish Orthodox Church celebrates its 100th anniversary, according to its official website.
The inclusion of the tradition of processions in the National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage was announced at the celebration of the Living Tradition at the Oodi Central Library in Helsinki.
It is specified that in 2023 the theme of Living Tradition is central in Finland. This is due to the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO Treaty on the Preservation of Intangible Cultural Heritage, to which Finland has been a party for a decade.
The initiators of the introduction of the tradition of processions in the National Register were: the Finnish Orthodox Church, the Orthodox Church Museum "Riza", the Union of Orthodox Youth of Finland, the Center for International Social and Missionary Activities of the Orthodox Church "Philanthropy", the Transfiguration Valaam Monastery, the Holy Trinity Lintul Monastery, as well as the Orthodox parishes of Helsinki, Southeastern Finland, Turku, Kuopio, Taipale, Saimaa, Jyvaskyla, Northern Finland and Tampere.
