A significant celebration took place for the parishioners of the Church of the Nativity of Christ in the village of 2nd Rozhdestvenskoye (formerly Shatovka) in the Fatezhsky district: the bishop of Zheleznogorsk and Lgovsky consecrated the third altar after the revival of the parish. Alexander Khinshtein, Governor of the Kursk region, attended the Sunday service together with residents of the Fatezhsky district.
According to Alexander Khinstein, the Church of the Nativity of Christ is one of the oldest monasteries in both the Fatezhsky district and the entire Kursk region, erected more than two and a half centuries ago, in 1763-1765, by the hereditary nobleman Peter Timofeevich Dolgintsev; even then the parish was made of stone and had a two—tiered bell tower, initially having two thrones — in honor of the Nativity and in memory of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, to which another one was added in the last century, dedicated to St. John of Rila, where residents of 11 nearby villages flocked.
The parish did not cease its activities even during the Soviet era, but in 1940 the services were suspended, starting again in January 1942, during the war years, and three years later the monastery was returned to the parishioners.
This temple represents the value of the regional cultural heritage. Over the past years, tremendous work has been done to restore the oldest shrine in the Kursk Region. A significant contribution in this belongs to the rector, Priest Nikolai (Rudenko), who took over the parish in a ruined state, but together with the flock managed to restore its former greatness.
