The regular session of the Council of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, chaired by His Holiness Patriarch Porfiry of Serbia, was held at St. Sava's Church in Belgrade from May 13 to 19, 2026.
Following the meeting of the Bishops' Council, an official press release was issued. In particular, it is noted that the participants of the Council discussed the spiritual and geopolitical consequences of military conflicts and crises around the world.
"The suffering of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church from the actions of the current authorities in Kiev, the seizure of its property, temples and monasteries, and the persecution of bishops, priests and monks of this only canonical Church in Ukraine, who are deprived of fundamental human rights and freedoms guaranteed by international conventions, remains an urgent topic," the statement said. the website of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
"The Council raises its voice again and again in defense of the disenfranchised and persecuted Orthodox brothers, appealing to all relevant international institutions not to turn a blind eye to this great injustice," the Serbian Church said.
