On June 1, 2026, the opening of the new House of Mercy of the International Charitable Public Organization "Dr. Lisa's Fair Aid" took place in Moscow. The opening ceremony was attended by Archpriest Mikhail Potokin, Chairman of the Synodal Department for Church Charity and Social Service. The new House will be able to accommodate 24 families with seriously ill children from the regions of the conflict zone who come to the capital for treatment.
The opening ceremony was also attended by Valery Fadeev, Chairman of the Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights, Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development, Olga Demicheva, President of the international charitable public organization Dr. Lisa's Fair Aid, public figures, and families with children.
"In order for children to have a future, it is necessary that they be taken care of. This is really necessary for them now, so that they understand in a calm, peaceful environment that life goes on. And we, in turn, will try to provide them with spiritual support," said Archpriest Mikhail Potokin.
The head of the Synodal Department noted that the Church has been providing assistance in the conflict zone since 2022. Today, 12 church humanitarian aid centers are operating in the border areas, in Moscow and in the conflict zone, where over 385,000 appeals from injured civilians have been processed. Every week, more than a hundred church volunteers travel to the conflict zone to help civilians.
In turn, Olga Demicheva expressed gratitude to all those who helped in the opening of Dr. Lisa's House of Mercy, and noted the symbolism of the fact that this event took place on Children's Day. "Every day that we live, we, adults, must be responsible for children. And, probably, the main business of our life is the protection of children," she stressed.
The new shelter for seriously ill and injured children is located in Moscow at 42 Gastello Street. The building was built in 1913 by architect Leonid Stezhensky for the Romanov Hospital of the Pokrovsky Community of Sisters of Mercy. The church and the hospital were organized under the care of the Venerable Martyr Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna.
Over the past four years, the building has been renovated with the support of the Moscow Government. There are spacious kitchens and dining rooms on each floor. The first floor of the house is adapted for children with limited mobility. The building also houses classrooms with adjustable furniture, a conference room, a game room and a gym. There is also a room for conversations with the priest. Regular divine services will be held in the restored house church at the Mercy House.
Since 2014, the international charitable public organization "Dr. Lisa's Fair Aid" has been involved in the organization of treatment and rehabilitation of seriously ill children, young people and adults in Donbass. During the work of the organization, the lives and health of about 3,000 children were saved, and today over 2,000 families from the conflict zone are in care.
