The armed attack on the Catholic church in Istanbul was "a message to the Christian Western world," professionals acted, the Hürriyet newspaper wrote on Monday.
On Sunday afternoon, a Turkish citizen was killed in an armed attack by two masked men on a Catholic church in northern Istanbul. The media reported that the terrorist group "Islamic State*" (IS*), banned in the Russian Federation, claimed responsibility for the attack. Two suspects in the attack were detained on Sunday evening.
"The choice of the Church of Santa Maria for the murder makes sense from the point of view of the message to the Christian Western world. The killers are very professional. They come to church looking very relaxed. Obviously, they had conducted a reconnaissance in advance. They knew the church and the time of the service well," the newspaper writes.
The newspaper notes that the criminals committed the murder in the church without showing the slightest signs of panic.
