The Serbian city of Prokuplje marked the feast of St. Procopius with solemn celebrations on July 21, when the Orthodox Church commemorates the early Christian great martyr according to the Gregorian calendar.

The festive Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the Church of St. Great Martyr Procopius and was led by Archbishop and Metropolitan Arsenije of Niš. Concelebrating with him were Bishop Marko of Delčevo and Kamenica, together with clergy from the Diocese of Niš of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Diocese of Delčevo and Kamenica of the Macedonian Orthodox Church–Ohrid Archbishopric, according to the Macedonian Church news portal liturgija.mk.

Following the service, the clergy blessed the traditional festive offerings and performed the customary breaking of the slava bread, an important Serbian Orthodox tradition associated with patronal feast celebrations.

St. Procopius is one of the most revered martyrs of the early Christian Church. According to Orthodox tradition, he was born in Jerusalem under the name Neanias. During the persecutions of Emperor Diocletian, he served as a military commander but converted to Christianity after experiencing a miraculous vision of Christ. He subsequently renounced his military career and openly professed his faith, for which he endured torture and was executed in Caesarea of Palestine around AD 303.

In Orthodox practice, St. Procopius is also commemorated during the sacrament of marriage as an example of steadfast faith and Christian witness.

The city of Prokuplje owes its name to the saint. During the Middle Ages, the settlement became known for its church dedicated to St. Procopius and gradually adopted the name "Prokuplje," a historical Serbian linguistic form derived from the saint's name. The city's longstanding connection with St. Procopius continues to make his feast day one of its most significant religious observances.
