Patriarch Kirill, head of the Russian Orthodox Church, has expressed condolences to the families of those killed and injured in a drone attack on the town of Kotovsk in Russia's Tambov region, pledging prayers and spiritual support for the victims.

In a message addressed to Tambov regional governor Yevgeny Pervyshov, the Patriarch said he received news of the tragedy "with deep sorrow." He extended his sympathy to everyone affected and voiced hope that regional authorities would provide the necessary assistance to the families of the victims and those injured.

Patriarch Kirill also said that clergy from the Tambov Diocese stand ready to provide spiritual care and support to those impacted by the attack. In a separate message to Metropolitan Feodosy of Tambov and Rasskazovo, he expressed confidence that local priests would remain close to people coping with the consequences of the incident.

The Patriarch added that he is praying for the repose of those who lost their lives, the swift recovery of the injured, and strength and courage for their relatives as well as the medical personnel treating the wounded.

According to regional authorities, the drone attack took place during the night of July 18 and struck a Wildberries logistics center in Kotovsk. Officials said seven employees were killed and 25 others were injured, with most of the wounded hospitalized. Regional authorities also stated that financial and other necessary assistance would be provided to the families of those killed and injured.

The circumstances of the attack and responsibility for it were not addressed in the Patriarch's statements.
