As part of a missionary trip along the Upper Lena River, which was led by a missionary group led by Metropolitan Maximilian of Irkutsk and Angara and Bishop Konstantin of Bratsk and Ust-Ilimsky, a traditional Armenian cross, a khachkar, was consecrated on August 1, 2026, on the territory of the Resurrection Church in the village of Verkholensk (the rector of the church is Archimandrite Nicodemus (Komarnitsky).
This is a special type of cross, which is distinguished by sprouted branches, expanded ends and ribbon framing. Its appearance symbolizes the life-giving power of the cross.
The consecration of the khachkar in Verkholensk was performed by Metropolitan Maximilian, who at the end of the prayer recalled the tradition of raising khachkars by representatives of the Armenian diaspora as evidence of the memory of his country, his faith and his tradition of the people scattered after the genocide in many parts of the world.
His Eminence also presented a letter of Thanks to Hrayr Aramovich Martirosyan, who carved this khachkar and provided much assistance to the Resurrection Church during its restoration.
