On August 14, representatives of the Kazan Cathedral and the Bastion riot police visited wounded soldiers undergoing treatment at the Alexander Hospital.
The participants were the chairman of the parish council, Archpriest Alexander Pashkov, his assistant Evgeny Platonov, chief regent Svetlana Rumyantseva, deputy commander of the political work unit of the OMON Bastion, volunteers and active staff of the personnel reserve of the OMON project "Assembled", philanthropist Maxim Sitkov.
The guests were greeted by the head of the surgical department, Georgy Sandursky.
Father Alexander conveyed the blessing of Metropolitan Varsonofy of St. Petersburg and Ladoga to the soldiers and wished them a speedy recovery.
The fighters were presented with sweet gifts provided by the Karat Plus confectionery factory.

The calling of the future Primate to episcopal ministry was formally established by a resolution of the Holy Synod in early March 1976; on the eve of the consecration, the rite of nomination took place, and on March 14—on the Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy—at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, Archimandrite Kirill (Gundyaev), rector of the Leningrad theological schools, was consecrated Bishop of Vyborg.

By the decision of His Holiness Patriarch Pimen and the Holy Synod of March 3, 1976, Archimandrite Kirill (Gundyaev), rector of the Leningrad Theological Academy and Seminary, was elected Bishop of Vyborg, vicar of the Leningrad Diocese.

Exactly 50 years ago, on March 13, 1976, at the Church of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian at the Leningrad Theological Academy, the rite of nomination took place; and on the following day, March 14, the First Sunday of Great Lent, the Feast of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, during the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in Leningrad, the episcopal consecration of Archimandrite Kirill — the future Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ — was performed. The service was presided over by the ever-memorable Metropolitan Nikodim (Rotov), whom His Holiness Patriarch Kirill calls his spiritual mentor and teacher.
