The Patriarchal Humanitarian Mission continues to deliver drinking water to residents of the Donetsk People's Republic. In summer, the issue of shortage of drinking water for Donetsk residents is particularly acute. Over the past month, three large shipments of bottled drinking water totaling 14,400 liters were sent to the warehouse of the Donetsk diocese.
"We received 4,500 six-liter bottles. Every two weeks, we donate 300 liters to the diocesan churches for subsequent distribution to parishioners in need, and our volunteers deliver 600 bottles to the homes of single people: people with disabilities, the elderly, and refugees, — said Elena Smolyak, coordinator of the Patriarchal Humanitarian Mission’s aid center in Donetsk. — Currently, many areas of the republic don’t even have access to utility water, so drinking water has become even more essential, especially in the heat, when the risk of spreading various infections increases. We are trying to provide water to all those in need and hope that we will be able to continue helping such people, there are a lot of them."
Anyone can make a donation and support further supplies of drinking water to the DPR on the "Let's Help" platform. The next water supply is scheduled for mid-August.
In total, the Patriarchal Humanitarian Mission transferred more than 232 thousand liters of drinking water to Donetsk, Makeyevka, Gorlovka and other cities of the DPR.
The Patriarchal Humanitarian Mission was established by the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church with the aim of coordinating and systematically developing assistance to civilians in the Donetsk People's Republic, the Luhansk People's Republic, and the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, as well as providing assistance to wounded military personnel.
There are 12 assistance centres of the Patriarchal Humanitarian Mission operating in Donbas, Novorossiya, and the border regions, where over 410,000 requests have been processed. More than 4,370 tons of humanitarian aid have been delivered to those affected. More than 7,900 volunteers took part in helping those affected. As part of the project to restore private housing for those in need in the conflict zone, 827 private houses have been restored. Volunteer priests are going on shifts to 45 hospitals in Donbas, Novorossiya, and the border regions. Together with the Synodal Department for Charity, a service is providing assistance to veterans of the special military operation and their loved ones.
