At the initiative of the Khabarovsk Diocese, banners with the image of the Most Holy Theotokos and a short prayer to the Mother of God were placed in different districts of the regional center. They are designed to provide spiritual support to people and help them turn to God more often with prayer.
The banners feature the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, especially revered in Russia. The Mother of God, through the prayers of people in front of her image, healed the sick more than once or saved the country from destruction. This was the case at the beginning of the 17th century, when Moscow was captured by the Poles. In the militia of Minin and Pozharsky there was a miraculous image of the Virgin, and after fervent prayers people were able to liberate the Kremlin from the invaders in 1613.
In 1812, Napoleon's army attacked Russia, and again prayer in front of the image of the Kazan Mother of God helped to cope with the invaders. The army of thousands of the famous commander fled from Russia.
The same thing happened during the Great Patriotic War. There is much evidence of how the Mother of God helped people survive the horrors of war, and soldiers to defeat a terrible enemy. Prayer has always helped soldiers in battles.
In such a difficult time, iconographic images placed on banners and being a modern gospel can help bring people to the light, lifting them above fear and despondency. Even if a person fleetingly comes into contact with the icon, walking down the street in a stream of people or passing by in a car, he will still be able to feel that the icon is a way of standing before God, it is a message to us, a sermon, a call to prayer for himself, for his loved ones, for his Fatherland.
