On the day of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, a prayer was heard at the positions of the Russian Guard in the Kursk region for those who gave their lives in the fight against fascism. On June 22, military priest Archpriest Yevgeny Chumachenko shared a meeting with soldiers serving at the tense border.

The pastor's ministry combined the memory of the past and the realities of the present. Father Evgeny served a requiem mass for the ancestors who fell during the war, and then performed a prayer service for Holy Russia for the soldiers preparing to go on a combat mission.

On this day, five servicemen began the Sacraments of Confession and Communion. After a conversation with the personnel, the priest blessed the Russian Guards, sprinkled holy water on the formation and handed over crosses, military belts, icons of Archangel Michael and chevrons with the face of St. Alexander Nevsky to the soldiers.

Historical memory on the front line is devoid of formalism. Remembering the feat of the victorious generation, today's defenders of the country are clearly aware of the price of their work. By accepting the church's blessing and joining the battle, they join the invisible ranks of those who defended the Fatherland and faith eight decades ago.
