Metropolitan Nektarios of Corfu, Paxos, and the Diapontian Islands visited the historic Cetinje Monastery, where he venerated some of the most significant holy relics of the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral.

During his visit, Metropolitan Nektarios prayed before the relics of St. Peter of Cetinje, the right hand of St. John the Baptist, and a fragment of the True Cross—objects regarded as central spiritual treasures of the Serbian Orthodox Church’s presence in Montenegro.

The Greek hierarch was received by Metropolitan Joanikije of Montenegro and the Littoral, together with Bishop Paisije of Dioclea, clergy, monastics, and local faithful. Church representatives described the visit as a moment of strong spiritual significance amid what they characterized as contemporary challenges and a broader crisis of faith affecting many countries.

Welcoming his guest, Metropolitan Joanikije emphasized the importance of maintaining close ties between Orthodox Churches, particularly in times of social and spiritual uncertainty. He also recalled a previous visit by Metropolitan Nektarios, during which the relic of St. Spyridon of Trimythous was brought to Montenegro, calling it a major blessing for the faithful.

In his remarks, Metropolitan Nektarios expressed gratitude for the hospitality and highlighted the spiritual importance of the Cetinje Monastery’s relics for the wider Orthodox world. He said they serve as a reminder of the Christian hope in the Resurrection.

The metropolitan also paid tribute to the late Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral, describing him as a remarkable spiritual leader and confessor of the faith. Nektarios noted that Amfilohije had guided his people through difficult times, while praising Metropolitan Joanikije for continuing his predecessor’s spiritual legacy.

As part of his visit, Metropolitan Nektarios also traveled to the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Podgorica, where he was welcomed by parish clergy and students of the local Sunday school. The students had recently completed a pilgrimage to Corfu, strengthening the ties between the two Orthodox communities.

While at the cathedral, the metropolitan venerated its sacred objects and later served a memorial service in the crypt for the repose of Metropolitan Amfilohije.

Participants in the visit said the encounter underscored the enduring spiritual connections between the Greek and Serbian Orthodox worlds and highlighted the importance of preserving ecclesiastical traditions for future generations.
