On July 17, 2026, on the memorial day of the Royal Passion-Bearers and Martyr doctor Evgeny Botkin, the Central Clinical Hospital of St. Alexy, Metropolitan of Moscow, together with the Diocese of Gorlovka, opened a classroom in Gorlovka (DPR).
With the blessing of Metropolitan Mitrofan of Gorlovka and Slavyansk, the confessor of the Gorlovka Sisterhood of Mercy, Archimandrite Agafodor (Polyakov), consecrated the room. Alexey Zarov, the chief physician and director of St. Alexy's Hospital, arrived from Moscow for the opening ceremony.
"Gorlovka has become a much-loved city for us. It was here that the first sisterhood of mercy of Donbass appeared in 2022. We are glad that the classroom is now open. This will help the Gorlovka Sisterhood of Mercy expand, as well as share its knowledge and skills with other sisters of mercy," said Alexey Zarov. — Our hospital has been engaged in professional training of nursing specialists for eight years. Through the training, nurses and volunteers receive the qualifications of junior nursing assistants, and already as professional volunteers they help in medical institutions. We train and support sisterhoods of mercy throughout Russia. A whole support system has been developed by St. Alexy's Church Hospital."
The St. Alexy's Hospital Training Center trains nursing assistants and nursing assistants for social services. The program includes theory and practice. Students learn professional skills in caring for the seriously ill and wounded, including conducting hygiene procedures, positioning, moving, and feeding. It is important to be able to do this comfortably for the patient and safely for the health of the caregiver himself.
The classroom in Gorlovka is equipped according to the uniform standard of St. Alexy's Hospital. With the support of the Christian Charity Foundation, all conditions have been created here to practice the skills of professional modern patient care. This is the 22nd academic class of St. Alexy's Hospital, opened outside Moscow.
