Saint Olga (Michael), revered in Alaska as the wife of an Orthodox priest and midwife, has inspired the creation of a new parish in Edmonton, Alaska. Affectionately known as Mother Olga, she is regarded as a patron saint of women, especially those who have experienced violence.

The newly formed parish in honor of Saint Olga of Alaska emerged from the local congregation dedicated to Saint Herman of Alaska. Its establishment aims to expand the mission in the southern region of the state, as reported by the website of the Orthodox Church in America's Alaskan Diocese. Approximately 80 people attended the inaugural liturgy, including members of the new community and parishioners from the Church of Saint Herman, who came to celebrate this joyful occasion with their fellow believers.

In November 2023, the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church in America canonized Olga (Arssamkuq) Michael (1916–1979), widely venerated in Alaska as the wife of an Orthodox priest and midwife. Mother Olga, as she is affectionately called in America, is considered a protector of women, particularly those who have endured violence.

Olga Arssamkuq hailed from the Yupik Eskimo people. Born and raised in the village of Kwethluk, Alaska, where a Russian Orthodox mission operated at the time, she was baptized with the name Olga. Her husband, Nikolai Michael (1912–1984), served as a village postmaster and managed a store. Later, he graduated from Saint Herman's Seminary, was ordained as a priest, and eventually elevated to the rank of archpriest. Olga and Nikolai had 13 children, eight of whom survived into adulthood. Saint Olga was a renowned midwife, assisting in childbirth for many women in Kwethluk and surrounding villages. She always aided the poor, often giving them the clothes of her own children, and showed care for women in need. In Alaska, local veneration of Mother Olga has long been widespread, with many icons depicting her with a basin of water and a towel, symbols of her role as a midwife. She is regarded as a patron saint of women who have experienced violence, with written testimonies from women who felt her intercession after prayers to her.
