A new church will be built in the Adler district of Sochi next to the ruins of St. Nicholas Church. The ruins are being museumized.
Now two arches, ruined walls and the outline of the altar remain from the Byzantine temple. At the same time, services continue here – priests and parishioners visit the temple daily.
Historians believe that it was built by the Byzantines around the 10th–13th centuries. It was not only a church, but also a fortress. At the same time, by the time the Black Sea coast joined Russia, it had already been practically destroyed.
The ruins of the temple are planned to be cleared of trees, shrubs and thickets, as well as to clean the walls and treat them with special substances to preserve them.
A new one is planned to be built next to the old temple. About 300 million rubles of funds from investors and parishioners will be spent on this. They have already begun to design and purchase the material.
