From September 4 to 7, 2025, the Serbian city of Zaječar hosted the 10th anniversary Christian Culture and Spiritual Documentary Film Festival. According to the website of the Serbian Orthodox Church, this forum has evolved over the past decade into one of the main cultural and ecclesiastical events in the region, uniting worship, art, cinema, and educational meetings.
The festival was officially opened on September 4 at the gates of the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God. The cathedral choir performed introductory hymns, followed by a welcoming address from Metropolitan Hilarion of Timok. Among the honored guests were Metropolitan Arsenius of Niš, Serbian Minister of Culture Nikola Selaković, and State Secretary of the Ministry of Mining and Energy Boško Ničić. Minister Selaković officially opened the festival, while Metropolitan Hilarion presented awards for long-standing support to the Ministry of Culture, the Department for Cooperation with Churches, and the local authorities of Zaječar. A new award for spiritual creativity was also presented for the first time, which was awarded to the renowned writer Liljana Habjanović-Džurović. The first evening featured a lecture on the spiritual heritage of Saint Sava and a screening of the film "Mountain of Transfiguration."
Special attention was given to children and youth during the festival. On September 7, Sunday, as part of Children's Week, Metropolitan Hilarion led the liturgy at the cathedral. The service was accompanied by a children's choir under the direction of Professor Natasha Jovanović. Following the liturgy, a prayer service was held for a successful start to the school year, and a concert featuring children's choirs from Zaječar, Negotin, and Bor took place in the cathedral courtyard. Additionally, a screening of animated films about Saint Sava was organized for young viewers.
The film portion of the festival concluded on September 7 with a ceremonial awards presentation. The jury recognized the films "Čangalović" by Nada Savić, "The Story of a Proud Regiment" by Slobodan Simojlović, and "Museum of Airplanes" by Dragana Milošević. The award for Best Cinematography went to Predrag Bambić for "Planet of Plums," while the Best Director award was given to Miroslav Živanović for "Don't Forget." The festival's Grand Prize was awarded to the film "I Want to Become a Saint" by Russian director Valery Timoshenko.
