The revered Myrrh-Streaming Hawaiian Iveron Icon of the Mother of God will visit Bulgaria for the first time from July 31 to August 19, giving Orthodox faithful across the country an opportunity to venerate the shrine during a nationwide pilgrimage.

The icon will be brought to Bulgaria by a delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR) led by Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe. The visit will take place at the invitation of Patriarch Daniil of Bulgaria and with the blessing of the ROCOR Synod of Bishops, according to the Diocese of Great Britain and Western Europe.

The official reception of the icon is scheduled for the evening of July 31 at Sofia Airport. It will then be transferred to the Church of St. Marina. On August 1, the icon will participate in the patriarchal Divine Liturgy at the Basilica of St. Sophia before joining a procession to the Cathedral of St. Nedelya.

During its stay, the icon will travel to numerous dioceses of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. The pilgrimage route includes the towns of Samokov, Ihtiman, and Dupnitsa, as well as the dioceses of Nevrokop, Lovech, Vidin, Vratsa, Veliko Tarnovo, Sliven, Varna, and Veliki Preslav. The visit will conclude with a pilgrimage to the Rila Monastery, one of Bulgaria's most important Orthodox spiritual centers.

The Hawaiian Iveron Icon gained recognition in the 21st century and is under the care of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia. It is a paper reproduction of the Montreal Iveron Icon produced by the Russian church art manufacturer Sofrino in the early 2000s.

The icon became widely known after reportedly beginning to stream fragrant myrrh in 2007 at the home of an Orthodox family in Hawaii. Many Orthodox Christians venerate it as a wonderworking icon, and reports of the phenomenon have attracted pilgrims from around the world. In recent years, the icon has traveled to dozens of countries, where it has been welcomed by Orthodox communities of various jurisdictions.
