in Rybinsk On August 5, the exhibition of the Greek photographer Kostas Asimis "Our Athos" will open in Rybinsk.
The Holy Mount Athos has been the main theme of the life and work of Kostas Asimis for more than 30 years. With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy of Moscow and All Russia, the photographer's work was first presented in Russia in 2007, at the International Exhibition of Orthodox Art "Light to the World" in Moscow.
Russian Russian Panteleimon Monastery's unique old photo archive was saved and restored thanks to the photographer, which contains rare photographs from the time of the German occupation, taken by the then representative of the Russian Monastery in Kinot, Hieromonk Vasily (Krivoshein) – the future Archbishop of Brussels, a famous theologian; it was Kostas Asimis who restored the famous picture, which captures how when distributing bread to poor monks at the walls of the monastery mysteriously appear the Most Holy Theotokos – in flames, humbly accepting alms.
In total, the exhibition "Our Athos" includes about 300 works. A kind of introduction to the life of modern Athos are historical photographs of the late XIX – early XX centuries, conveying the atmosphere of the life of St. Panteleimon Monastery during the last decades of the Russian Empire, as well as pictures of shrines, moments of festive divine services and everyday labors of the Svyatogorsky monks, nature, monasteries, cells, amazing buildings of Athos monasteries. The central part of the exhibition consists of masterfully executed portraits of Athos elders, monks, novices.
