Unknown persons beat off the figure of Jesus Christ from the cross, which they stole, and desecrated the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary by extinguishing a cigarette on it.
On October 29, 2023, vandals damaged the crucifixion of Christ and desecrated the statue of the Virgin Mary in Kiev on the territory of the parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Roman Catholic Church, the Union of Orthodox Journalists reports with reference to the website rkc.org.ua .
Unknown persons beat off the figure of Jesus Christ from the cross, which they stole, and desecrated the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary by extinguishing a cigarette on it.
According to the rector, Priest Mateusz Adamski, the incident involving two unknown persons occurred on Sunday at about 17:30. The Darnitsky district police is investigating the incident.

March 14, 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the episcopal consecration of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill. This is not merely a personal jubilee, but a date of profound significance for the fullness of the Church as a whole, because episcopal consecration is the moment of assuming a special responsibility for the people of God and a witness to the Church’s fidelity to apostolic succession. The calling of the future Primate to episcopal ministry was formally established by a resolution of the Holy Synod in early March 1976; on the eve of the consecration, the rite of nomination took place, and on March 14—on the Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy—at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, Archimandrite Kirill (Gundyaev), rector of the Leningrad theological schools, was consecrated Bishop of Vyborg.

Exactly 50 years ago, on March 13, 1976, at the Church of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian at the Leningrad Theological Academy, the rite of nomination took place; and on the following day, March 14, the First Sunday of Great Lent, the Feast of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, during the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in Leningrad, the episcopal consecration of Archimandrite Kirill — the future Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ — was performed. The service was presided over by the ever-memorable Metropolitan Nikodim (Rotov), whom His Holiness Patriarch Kirill calls his spiritual mentor and teacher.
