Kaluga Seminary hosted a round table on traditional values in the Russian legal system

On July 6, 2026, the All-Russian Scientific and Practical Round table "Ways and methods of consolidating traditional value coordinates in the Russian legal system" was held in the assembly hall of the Kaluga Archdiocese as part of the annual Optina Forum.
The event was organized by the Kaluga Diocese and the Kaluga Theological Seminary together with the Kaluga Institute of the All-Russian State University of Justice, the Institute of Spiritual and Cultural Heritage and the working group "Society and Culture" of the State Duma of the Russian Federation. The round table was held with the support of the International Grant Competition "Orthodox Initiative".
The participants discussed issues of legal consolidation and protection of traditional spiritual and moral values, their content in modern conditions, as well as the need to improve legal mechanisms and terminology in this area.
Metropolitan Clement of Kaluga and Borovsk, Chairman of the Publishing Council of the Russian Orthodox Church, addressed the audience with a welcoming speech. The participants were also welcomed by representatives of the State Duma, the legal community, the notary, the legal profession and the authorities of the Kaluga region.
The meeting was moderated by V.G. Leontiev, Executive Secretary of the Optina Forum, I.N. Demin, Head of the Department of Humanities and Special Disciplines at the Kaluga State University Institute, and Priest Daniil Salishchev, Vice-rector of the Kaluga Theological Seminary for Scientific and Theological Work.
During the meeting, reports were presented on the introduction of traditional values into Russian legislation, the systematization of the regulatory framework and the understanding of the value coordinates of the individual, society and the state in the legal system of Russia.
The discussion was attended by representatives of Kaluga Theological Seminary, Kaluga State State University, Kaluga State University named after K.E. Tsiolkovsky, as well as students of theological and law schools.
Following the meeting, the participants exchanged views on possible ways to legislate traditional spiritual and moral values and outlined areas for further scientific and expert work.
