As a result of the heavy rains that took place in the Chelyabinsk region, several districts were affected. As of August 5, 2024, according to the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Chelyabinsk region, an emergency regime is in effect in six municipalities of the region. 214 private residential buildings and 325 private plots remain flooded, and 30 people, including nine children, are in temporary accommodation.
In the Korkinsky district of the Chelyabinsk region, whose settlements suffer from flooding caused by heavy rainfall, sanitary and preventive measures have also been strengthened. The administration appealed to residents to boil drinking water in order to avoid infection with intestinal infections. To help the victims, two churches in the Korkinsky district — the church in honor of the Apostles Peter and Paul in Korkino and the church in honor of the Great Martyr Panteleimon of the village of Rosa — organized points for the distribution of bottled drinking water and food packages.
"We held a working meeting with Vladimir Kochkin, Deputy head of the city of Korkino for social affairs, and Father Nikolai Nevzorov, rector of the church of the village of Rosa, on the urgent issue of helping residents who find themselves in the flood zone. Our churches in Korkino and Rosa have organized supply points for bottled drinking water and food packages, and this is very important now for those who are left without a supply of clean water," said Archpriest Igor Shestakov, Secretary of the Chelyabinsk Diocese, rector of the Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul in Korkino. — The city authorities are doing everything to eliminate the emergency situation. The Archdiocese and the Chelyabinsk diocese are also collecting funds and everything necessary, everything that may be necessary for people experiencing the power of disaster. The Lord sends trials in which the power of actions, not the flowery words, is manifested. And no one will leave anyone in trouble."
Also, the Chelyabinsk Metropolis organized a fundraiser to help victims of flooding. This request was made by the bishops of all dioceses of the metropolis.
