On February 2, a prayer service for the end of natural disasters in California and for the help of wildfire victims was held at the Joy of All Who Sorrow Cathedral in San Francisco, the official website of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR) reports.

On Sunday, February 2, during the Sunday of Zacchaeus, His Eminence Archbishop Kyrill of San Francisco and Western America presided over the Divine Liturgy at ROCOR's main cathedral. He was assisted by the cathedral clergy, while the Archbishop’s Choir, under the direction of Vladimir Krasovsky, performed the liturgical hymns.

Following the Liturgy, a moleben (supplicatory prayer service) was offered before the miraculous Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God "The Sign," praying for the end of the disaster and for those affected by the fires.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection reported on January 31 that the wildfires near Los Angeles were brought under control after 24 days of intense efforts. Major blazes in Pacific Palisades and Eaton have been fully contained.

The fires destroyed over 16,000 buildings, claimed 29 lives, and caused an estimated $250 billion in damage. While recent rains in Southern California helped firefighters battle the flames, they also triggered landslides on mountain slopes, complicating rescue efforts.

Evacuation orders, which had affected 180,000 residents, have now been lifted.
