From January 4 to 22, 2025, seven students from the Moscow and St. Petersburg Theological Academies, hailing from African countries such as Benin, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Republic of Congo, Madagascar, and Mauritius, visited the Holy Trinity Monastery in Cheboksary. This was reported by the website of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa.
The group’s spiritual mentor was Archimandrite Vasily (Pasquier), the monastery's abbot. He held spiritual discussions with the students, addressing their questions. Archimandrite Vasily, originally from France, began his monastic life in the Greek Catholic Church but converted to Orthodoxy in 1994. For three decades, he has served in Russia, ministering at various parishes in Chuvashia before becoming abbot of the Holy Trinity Monastery in 2009.
During their stay, the seminarians undertook various obediences, including clearing snow, baking prosphora, assisting in the refectory, singing in the choir, and serving in the altar. They also had the opportunity to meet with Metropolitan Savvaty of Cheboksary and Chuvashia. The Metropolitan encouraged them to pursue their studies diligently and invited them to return to Chuvashia during future breaks.
On the final day of their pilgrimage, January 22, the students participated in a Divine Liturgy at the monastery’s chapel, singing in the choir and actively contributing to the service.
