Metropolitan Konstantin of Cairo and North Africa, Patriarchal Exarch of Africa of the Russian Orthodox Church, has begun a pastoral visit to Tanzania, marked by the consecration of a newly built Orthodox church and meetings with clergy on the future development of the Church's mission in the country.

One of the central events of the visit took place in the village of Kimamba in the Morogoro Region, where Metropolitan Konstantin performed the lesser consecration of the newly constructed Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and celebrated its first Divine Liturgy. The church was built with the support of benefactors of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa.

Following the service, the metropolitan addressed the congregation, presenting the parish with an icon of St. Nicholas, liturgical coverings, and priestly vestments. Worshippers received commemorative gifts, including pectoral crosses and small icons of St. Nicholas. The parish rector, Fr. Lawrence Sakwa, was also awarded the right to wear the nabedrennik, a liturgical vestment granted as an ecclesiastical distinction.

Later the same day, Metropolitan Konstantin met with clergy from Tanzania's Central Deanery to discuss the continued development of Orthodox parish life and missionary outreach in the country.

During the meeting, Archimandrite Zachariah (Mulingwa), a graduate of the St. Petersburg Theological Academy, was appointed dean of Tanzania's Central Church District. His predecessor, Archimandrite Philaret (Kimaro), was named spiritual father of the Northern and Central deaneries.

The clergy were also introduced to newly published liturgical and educational materials in the Swahili language prepared by the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa to support worship and catechetical work.

As part of the visit, practical assistance was provided to local clergy through the support of Russian benefactors. Each priest received a motorcycle to facilitate travel between parishes and support missionary work across Tanzania, where many Orthodox communities are separated by long distances and limited transportation infrastructure.

The visit reflects the Russian Orthodox Church's continuing efforts to expand pastoral care, strengthen local church structures, and support missionary activity across the African continent.
