The Jerusalem Church has called on the international community to prevent the escalation of violence on the West Bank of the Jordan River. Earlier this week, Israeli troops conducted a counter-terrorism operation in a Palestinian refugee camp in Jenin. Twelve people were killed, and another 120 were injured during the operation. After the withdrawal of troops from Jenin, Palestinian radicals launched rockets towards Israel, but as reported by the Israeli government, they were intercepted by the air defense system.
Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem condemned the attack on the refugee camp and emphasized the urgent need to find a solution to this conflict; otherwise, the violence will continue, leading to more casualties and people losing their homes. He stated, "We believe in the inalienable right of every person to live in peace and dignity and call for an immediate cessation of violence. We urge the global community to do everything possible to end the armed clashes and to seek peaceful resolution of disputes. A just resolution for the Palestinians is not only a humanitarian necessity but also a political and moral imperative. The continuation of violence leads to increased tension and division in the region and exposes the lives of thousands of innocent people to danger and suffering." He also recalled the words from the Holy Gospel: "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God." (Matthew 5:9)
Following the raid in Jenin, approximately three thousand people were forced to leave the camp. The Jerusalem Orthodox Church and the Latin Patriarchate provided shelter for the refugees in their respective churches.
