A new comprehensive family assistance center aimed at supporting pregnant women, young and large families, and people facing difficult life circumstances has opened in the city of Abakan, becoming the first facility of its kind in Russia’s Republic of Khakassia.

The center, named “Point of Support. Family” (“Tochka Opory. Semya”), officially began operations on June 16, 2026, during a ceremony attended by Archbishop Ionafan of Abakan and Khakassia, Khakassia Head Valentin Konovalov, Deputy Head of the Republic Mikhail Pobyzakov, and Alexander Tuzenko, director of the Innokenty Sibiryakov Foundation.

Before the center opened its doors, Archbishop Ionafan led a prayer service, blessed the premises, and offered his blessing to the staff who will work with families and individuals seeking assistance, according to the Abakan Diocese.

The initiative is being implemented by the Innokenty Sibiryakov Foundation with support from the regional government. Organizers say the project is designed to bring together the resources of government agencies, the Russian Orthodox Church, community organizations, businesses, and volunteers to provide coordinated support for families with children.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Foundation Director Alexander Tuzenko described the center as the result of cooperation between public authorities, the Church, and civil society.

“We have demonstrated that ideas and initiatives discussed in the past can become reality through joint efforts,” Tuzenko said. “Our goal is to see more happy families and children. The family is the foundation of the country’s well-being and future.”

Regional leader Valentin Konovalov called the center an important social and demographic initiative for Khakassia, saying it would provide a place where families can receive assistance in a wide range of life situations.

The center will offer legal, psychological, social, and humanitarian support. Specialists will assist pregnant women, families with children, low-income residents, and large and young families in addressing everyday, social, and legal challenges.

Officials and organizers hope the project will strengthen family support services in the region and serve as a model for cooperation between public institutions, faith communities, and civic organizations in addressing social needs.
