In the city of Manukan, Zamboanga del Norte province in the Philippines, the construction of an Orthodox church in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker continues. A new important stage in the life of the local community was the consecration and installation of the dome and cross on the church under construction.
The joyful event took place shortly after the patronal celebrations at the parish of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. On May 25, the rector of the parish, Priest Juventinus Bulakwegna, performed the rite of consecration of the newly equipped dome and cross for the future church. On the same day, they were lifted up and installed on the church.
This event has a special significance for the Orthodox community of Manukan. St. Nicholas Parish is located in a remote part of the island of Mindanao, far from many other Orthodox communities in the Philippines. For a long time, believers did not have their own church, and the liturgical life developed in modest conditions. Therefore, the appearance of a full-fledged church building becomes not only a construction, but also a spiritual frontier for parishioners.
The church in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is intended to become a permanent place of prayer, participation in the Sacraments and spiritual enlightenment for local Orthodox Christians. Its construction testifies to the gradual strengthening of the parish life of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Philippines, where Orthodox communities unite both local residents and believers from different countries.
St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is especially revered throughout the Orthodox world as a speedy helper, intercessor for those traveling, those in distress, and all who turn to him with prayer. For the small but growing Orthodox community in Manukan, the church in his honor is becoming a visible sign of hope, unity and the continuation of the church's mission.
The installation of the dome and the cross became one of the most notable stages of construction. The main Christian symbol, the cross, now stands above the future church, reminding believers of the victory of Christ's love and that even in the most remote corners of the world, church life can take root and bear fruit.
