The Patriarchal Humanitarian Mission delivered 18 tons of drinking water to the residents of the Donetsk People's Republic. Another batch was delivered to the warehouse of the Donetsk diocese, from where the Mission's staff and volunteers, together with representatives of the diocese, deliver water to those in need daily.
Water is still one of the most acute problems in Donetsk, Gorlovka and other cities of the republic. Industrial water is supplied to residents every few days in extremely limited quantities.
"Water delivery is the daily job of our volunteers: we deliver it to the homes of the infirm, the elderly, and those for whom even going to the store is often impossible," says Olena Smolyak, coordinator of the Patriarchal Humanitarian Mission's assistance center in Donetsk. — For example, in the Kievsky district of Donetsk there is a house where our wards live in 15 apartments at once. There are infirm people behind every door who cannot purchase or receive water themselves. There are completely blind people among the wards; for them, buying water is an impossible task."
A fundraiser for further purchase of drinking water has been opened on the charity platform "Let's Help". Anyone can make a donation and support further supplies of drinking water to Donetsk.
The next delivery is scheduled for mid-June. In total, the Patriarchal Humanitarian Mission has transferred more than 218 thousand liters of drinking water to Donetsk, Makeyevka, Gorlovka and other cities.
The Russian Orthodox Church has been helping civilians in Donbas since February 2022. As part of the project to restore private housing for those in need in the conflict zone, 780 private homes have been restored. The Patriarchal Humanitarian Mission coordinates the social assistance of the Church in the regions of the SVR zone.
