A new skete of the Georgian Orthodox Church has emerged on Mount Athos. This marks the third Georgian skete on the Holy Mountain, as reported by the Public Relations Service of the Georgian Patriarchate. Currently, only two monks and an abbot will reside in the skete.

According to the charter of the Athos state, there are 20 major monasteries on the Holy Mountain, to which the other sketes and cells belong. The new Georgian skete is affiliated with the Great Lavra Monastery. Another Georgian Church skete is linked to the Vatopedi Monastery, and yet another is associated with the Simonopetra Monastery.

The abbot of the newly established skete is Father Ilarion, who has lived and served on Mount Athos for 20 years. The construction of the skete was funded by Georgian faithful. On August 28, the Church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos was consecrated in the Georgian skete. The liturgy was presided over by an hierarch of the Georgian Church, Bishop Vakhtang of Nikortsminda. The service was conducted in both Georgian and Greek. Archimandrite Methodius, abbot of the Serbian Hilandar Monastery, was also present at the liturgy.
