On December 8, 2024, the Macedonian Orthodox Church celebrated the feast day of its patron saint, St. Clement of Ohrid. A Divine Liturgy was held at the Cathedral of St. Clement in Skopje, led by His Beatitude Archbishop Stefan of Ohrid and Macedonia. Concelebrating with him were Metropolitan Joseph of Povardarje, Metropolitan Joachim of Kumanovo, and Metropolitan Joachim of Ilinden. The event was reported by the news portal liturgija.mk.

The celebrations began on December 7 with a festive Vespers service at the same cathedral, officiated by Metropolitan Joseph of Tetovo-Gostivar, along with clergy from the Skopje Diocese. Archbishop Stefan was also in attendance for the service.

On December 6, a day dedicated to St. Clement as the patron of Macedonian theological education, an episcopal evening service was held in the chapel of the Faculty of Theology. This service was presided over by Metropolitan Gregory of Kumanovo and Osogovo, with the participation of Metropolitan Peter of Prespa-Pelagonia, Metropolitan Agathangel of Povardarje, and other hierarchs.

Following the evening service, a ceremonial event took place at the seminary. The program included an awards ceremony recognizing students for outstanding literary works dedicated to St. Clement. Metropolitan Agathangel, the seminary’s rector, expressed gratitude and highlighted the saint's enduring intercession in the life of the Church and the educational institution.

St. Clement of Ohrid (circa 840–916) was a disciple of Saints Cyril and Methodius. He is celebrated as a foundational figure in Slavic hymnography and as a pioneer of Christian education in Bulgaria and North Macedonia. He became the first Slavic bishop and established the Ohrid School of Theology.

His literary contributions include hymns, hagiographies, and translations of liturgical texts. St. Clement is also known for authoring services dedicated to saints and the Theotokos, as well as a penitential canon.

The legacy of St. Clement is honored in numerous churches, schools, and institutions across Bulgaria and North Macedonia. In Skopje, the city’s main church is dedicated to him, and in Sofia, Bulgaria’s largest university bears his name.

The saint’s relics are enshrined in the restored church on Plaosnik Hill in Ohrid. A portion of his relics is housed in the Church of the Seven Saints in Sofia, while his skull is venerated in Greece.
