The restoration of the ensemble of the Donskoy Stavropol Monastery in Moscow will continue, said the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, in his channel in the MAX.
"The Donskoy Stavropol Monastery is an object of cultural heritage of federal significance. There are over 30 historical and architectural monuments in it. Comprehensive restoration has been underway for several years now — at the expense of the federal and city budgets, with the help of patrons," Sergei Sobyanin said.
Currently, the restoration of the Small (Old) Cathedral and the Church of Archangel Michael has been completed. In 2016-2017, the restoration projects of these facilities were awarded the Moscow Restoration Award.
The historical appearance was also restored to the abbot's house, built in 1749. The facades and domes of the Great (New) Cathedral (1684-1689, 1748), as well as 9 of the 12 fortress towers, were restored.
In accordance with the decree of the Moscow Government, the complex restoration of the ensemble will continue in 2026. Among other things, work will be completed on tower No. 10 and the restoration of the church of St. John Chrysostom with the lower church of the Great Martyr Catherine.
