On June 14, 2026, in the 2nd Week after Pentecost, All Saints who shone forth in the Russian land, the tragic events of June 1995, when 137 people died as a result of a terrorist act, were remembered in the city of Budennovsk, Stavropol Territory.
At the invitation of Bishop Nicholas of Georgievsk and Praskovey, Archbishop Justinian of Elista and Kalmyk, Bishop Sergius of Alapaevsky and Irbit, and Bishop Seraphim of Yeysk and Timashevsky took part in the commemorative events.
Early in the morning, the Divine Liturgy was served in the church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. The service was led by Archbishop Justinian of Elista and Kalmykia. The bishops were co-served by the cathedral of the clergy of the St. George Diocese and the clergy from among the guests.
Hospital staff and residents of the city prayed. Liturgical hymns were performed by the combined choir of the St. George Diocese and the choir of students of the Stavropol Theological Seminary. The participants of the Liturgy offered a special prayer for Holy Russia.
At the same time, funeral services were held at the places of death of the defenders of the city, at the chapel of the Great Martyr George the Victorious and at the monument to the fallen aviator soldiers.
After the Liturgy, Bishop Nicholas addressed the worshippers. Then, from the church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, believers, archpastors and clergy marched in a procession to the hospital, where hostages were held for four long days. At the head of the procession, the clergy carried the Holy Cross Icon of the Mother of God.
A memorial service was held at the chapel of the icon of the Mother of God "Joy to All who Mourn", erected in memory of all those who died at the hands of terrorists in June 1995. Archbishop Justinian addressed the prayer participants.
The commemorative events ended with the laying of flowers at the memorial of those who died in June 1995.
The memory of the victims of the terrorist act of 1995 was prayerfully honored in Budennovsk.
