The grand opening of the Alley of Glory in memory of the fallen soldiers of the special military operation took place in Korsakov. With the blessing of Archbishop Nikanor of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and Kuril Islands, Abbot Alexy (Andreev), the vicar of the Pokrovsky Monastery, took part in the event.
The priest celebrated the requiem mass and addressed the audience with a pastoral address, emphasizing that on this day it is especially important to recall the names of those who are no longer among us and to honor their memory with prayer.
The opening ended with the laying of flowers at the obelisk of the fallen soldiers.

The calling of the future Primate to episcopal ministry was formally established by a resolution of the Holy Synod in early March 1976; on the eve of the consecration, the rite of nomination took place, and on March 14—on the Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy—at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, Archimandrite Kirill (Gundyaev), rector of the Leningrad theological schools, was consecrated Bishop of Vyborg.

Exactly 50 years ago, on March 13, 1976, at the Church of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian at the Leningrad Theological Academy, the rite of nomination took place; and on the following day, March 14, the First Sunday of Great Lent, the Feast of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, during the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in Leningrad, the episcopal consecration of Archimandrite Kirill — the future Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ — was performed. The service was presided over by the ever-memorable Metropolitan Nikodim (Rotov), whom His Holiness Patriarch Kirill calls his spiritual mentor and teacher.
