On behalf of the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Olga Lyubimova, Deputy Minister Vladimir Osintsev paid a working visit to Kursk on November 27, 2025. Accompanied by Alexander Khinstein, Governor of the Kursk Region, and representatives of local authorities, he visited the Znamensky Monastery in Kursk.
They were met at the monastery by Metropolitan Herman of Kursk and Rila.
The guests visited the Cathedral of the Sign, where they got acquainted with the renovation work, and the Resurrection Church of the monastery. Bishop Herman spoke about the history and revival of the ancient monastery and its temples, about the main shrines of the Kursk region and about the current state of the temples of the Kursk Diocese after the invasion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the territory of the Kursk region.
Then the facilities on the territory of the Kursk Fortress were inspected, where restoration work is already underway in preparation for the celebration of the 1000th anniversary of Kursk.
The idea of reviving the Kursk Fortress was supported by the President. The main goal of the work is not only to preserve historical memory for residents and guests of Kursk, but also to create a full–fledged spiritual, educational, historical and cultural cluster.
The regional museum of local lore will be located in the building of the former men's gymnasium after renovation. In the near future, it is planned to close the thermal circuit and begin interior decoration. As Vladimir Osintsev emphasized, all work must be carried out in accordance with the production schedule. The construction should be completed by the end of 2026 so that specialists can start organizing the museum space in 2027, according to the official website of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
The building of the former Noble Assembly (Philharmonic Hall), the Fraternal Building, the District Court and the Fence Tower will be restored as part of the Historical Memory party project, and design documentation is currently being developed.
