The Jerusalem Orthodox Church has announced the start of construction on a new Orthodox church in Amman, Jordan, dedicated to **St. Paisios the Athonite, St. Sophronius of Jerusalem, and St. Porphyrios of Kavsokalyvia.

The announcement was made by the press office of the Jordan Diocese of the Jerusalem Patriarchate. Metropolitan Christophoros of Jordan revealed the launch of the project on the feast day of St. Paisios the Athonite, noting that the initiative is being carried out with the blessing of **Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem**.

Alongside the start of construction, the diocese has launched an official website for the future church, where updates on the building process will be published and supporters will be able to contribute to the project.

Although the Jerusalem Patriarchate is most closely associated with the Holy Land, Jordan forms a significant part of its canonical territory. The country is home to a large share of the Patriarchate's faithful, as well as dozens of parishes and monasteries. It also contains several major Christian holy sites connected with the Gospel, including the traditional site of Christ's baptism on the Jordan River. In recent years, particularly during periods of conflict in Israel and the Palestinian territories, Jordan has served as one of the most stable centers of church life for the Jerusalem Patriarchate.

According to Metropolitan Christophoros, the new church is needed because of the rapid expansion of western Amman, where many Orthodox families have relocated. The land for the project was donated by the Orthodox Society for Culture and Education.

The metropolitan also called on Orthodox Christians in Jordan and members of the Jordanian diaspora to support the construction, saying the new church would strengthen the Christian presence and the ministry of the Jerusalem Orthodox Church in Jordan and the Holy Land.
