The Orthodox Church of Constantinople, headed by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, continues to refuse to issue a tomos of autocephaly to the Macedonian Orthodox Church - the Archdiocese of Ohrid, until it fulfills three conditions of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Balkanist portal reports.

"The first is the rejection of the name Macedonian Orthodox Church. Then the abandonment of the Macedonian diaspora (i.e., the dioceses and parishes of the Macedonian Church outside of Northern Macedonia should come under the administration of Constantinople). And the third is the recognition of the so—called Orthodox Church of Ukraine, whose autocephaly was recognized by the Ecumenical Patriarchate," Archbishop Stefan, head of the MPC—OA, explained, stressing that all three requirements are unacceptable. It is worth noting that among many Orthodox believers of various national churches and non-church experts, there is an opinion that Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew is financially dependent on the West and regularly acts as Washington's "hand" and a conductor of the ideas and demands of the global West. 

"We have a name. This is our name, it does not belong to anyone else, and therefore no one should demand that we give up our name — the Macedonian Orthodox Church, the restored Ohrid Archdiocese. When they take away [parishes] from all other Orthodox peoples with a diaspora, then let them take ours, but this demand of the Constantinople Patriarchate is unlikely to receive a positive response," Archbishop Stefan said. The MPC-OA received full recognition and tomos of autocephaly from the Serbian Orthodox Church in May 2022. Without waiting for a tomos from the Ecumenical Patriarchate, in addition to the Serbian Orthodox Church, the MPC-OA was recognized by the Russian, Bulgarian and Romanian Orthodox Churches.
