This is planned to be carried out during the "Tree in Architecture" festival next summer. The city authorities and the higher clergy are discussing the possibility of restoring the Spaso-Vsegradsky Cathedral.
The history of the temple is well known to Vologda residents. In the middle of the 17th century, a pestilence was rampant. To combat the disease, the townspeople built a church in one day and acted with the whole world. The disease receded, and by the end of the century, the Spaso-Vsegradsky Cathedral had grown on the site of the "ordinary" church.
"Now in Vologda we are discussing the restoration of an iconic architectural and spiritual symbol for the city. This idea was supported by the diocese and the Union of Architects of Russia. The cathedral can become a new dominant on the square after its landscaping, which is planned for the anniversary of Vologda in 2027," said Mayor Sergei Voropanov.
There is an agreement with the President of the Union of Architects of Russia on the construction of a wooden "ordinary" temple. The project has already been found, investors are being searched, SeverInform news agency reports
