In Russia, 532 private clinics have already voluntarily stopped performing abortions, supporting the initiatives of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) to limit abortion. This was announced by Chairman of the Patriarchal Commission on Family Affairs Fyodor Lukyanov, adding that more than 80 regions of the country also supported these initiatives.
The priest expressed confidence that with the adoption of the federal law on state control over abortions, other clinics will follow this example. He noted that in some regions, such as Crimea, where all private clinics have refused abortions, the number of women who have decided to stay pregnant has increased significantly.
In addition, the priest stressed the need to improve conditions for maternity care in the country, pointing out the lack of maternity hospitals and antenatal clinics compared to the number of clinics providing abortion services. He called for changes in legislation to protect human rights from the moment of conception.
