On October 30, the Monastery of St. Prochorus of Pčinja in Serbia opened its doors to the third annual St. Prochorus Monastic Assembly. Organized by the Diocese of Vranje and supported by Hilandar Monastery under the auspices of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, the assembly gathered over 100 monastic representatives from Serbia, Greece, Russia, Romania, North Macedonia, Montenegro, England, Argentina, and Guatemala.
The assembly’s program includes sessions on topics such as “The Revival and Development of Monasticism,” “Monastic Obedience as a Path to Knowing and Fulfilling God's Will,” “The Importance of Hesychasm for Eastern Monasticism,” and “Monasticism in Countries Without Orthodox Monastic Traditions.” The discussions focus on preserving and enriching monastic heritage and deepening spiritual practices.
Metropolitan Pahomije of Vranje opened the assembly with a welcome address and read a message from the Serbian Patriarch and the Synod. Archimandrite Methodios, abbot of Hilandar Monastery, also spoke, emphasizing the importance of maintaining spiritual traditions.
In the first session, Bishop David of Dremvica led discussions on "The Revival and Promotion of Monasticism.” The second session featured Abbess Kirana from the Dormition Monastery in North Macedonia, who highlighted the role of spiritual mentors in guiding monastics to fulfill God's will. The assembly continues today with further discussions on key aspects of monastic life and practice.
