As a result of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' night attack on September 9, 2026, the church of St. Spyridon of Trimifunt in Novorossiysk was damaged.
"Last night, the Ukrainian Armed Forces drones struck not only the civilian infrastructure, but also the Orthodox shrine of St. Spyridon of Trimifunt," the head of Novorossiysk, Andrei Kravchenko, said in his telegram channel.
"As a result of the attack, the roof and domes of the central part of the temple were seriously damaged, and the glazing was partially damaged. However, despite the scale of the external destruction, the interior was practically undamaged: all the icons survived, the walls and the altar part received only spot damage. An economic building has been destroyed in the surrounding area. A direct hit penetrated a gas pipe — the emergency service promptly eliminated the gust," the report says.
According to Andrey Kravchenko, the first priority is to dismantle the damaged dome to prevent the roof from collapsing and to clear the surrounding area, which is actively assisted by parishioners, volunteers and Cossacks. Starting from September 10, the contractor will begin restoration work.
"This attack on the spiritual values of our city is an unforgivable crime," the mayor said. "Only together can we restore the temple to its former appearance and strengthen what cannot be destroyed — our unity and faith."
