In Kostroma, on the territory of the marine temple in honor of the Nativity of the Virgin on the Volga, on August 2, 2026, the opening and consecration of the sculptural image of the righteous Admiral Theodor Ushakov took place.
The opening of the bust was the first step in the creation of the Alley of Admirals on the Kostroma city embankment, which will be dedicated to outstanding Kostroma naval commanders.
A sculptural image of the invincible naval commander with the inscription "Admiral Fyodor Fyodorovich Ushakov. Holy. The righteous one. Invincible. 1745-1817" was presented as a gift to Kostroma by the initiative group for the construction of a spiritual and historical complex in honor of the righteous warrior Feodor Ushakov in Moscow and the St. Andrew the First-Called Foundation.
In his speech to the audience, the Governor of the Kostroma region, S.K. Sitnikov, noted the naval commander's services to the Motherland and stressed that the life and feat of selfless service to the Motherland of the righteous admiral are an example and a guideline in serving the Fatherland in the current difficult situation. "Kostroma province has given Russia more than 110 admirals, rear admirals and vice admirals. These are the people who glorified our country and served it faithfully. It is our duty to preserve their memory," concluded the governor.
Senator from the Kostroma region S.M. Kirillova called the opening of the bust a historic event for the region.
In his speech, Metropolitan Vikenty of Tashkent and Uzbekistan, head of the Central Asian Metropolitan District, honorary rector of the Church of the Righteous Warrior Theodore Ushakov in the Left Bank of Moscow, drew the attention of the audience to the fact that the opening of the bust of the righteous admiral was timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the saint's canonization. It marked the beginning of a pilgrimage organized by the St. Andrew the First-Called Foundation to Mordovia, where the relics of the righteous admiral rest in the Nativity of the Virgin Sanaksar Monastery and where jubilee celebrations on the occasion of the day of commemoration of his canonization will take place on August 5.
Then, many years were celebrated to the defenders of the Fatherland, serving in naval ranks to protect the borders of the Motherland, and "Eternal Memory" to the sailors who gave their lives for the Fatherland.
Metropolitan Ferapont of Kostroma and Nerekhta presented the creators of the monument with medals and diplomas of the Kostroma Diocese.
Then a cannon salute sounded; ships standing in the roadstead made sound signals in honor of the solemn event. The orchestra of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts named after Marshal S.K. Timoshenko performed a march.
The participants laid flowers at the monument of the righteous warrior Feodor Ushakov. The bell rang at the end of the event.
The memory of the Kostroma sailors is planned to be immortalized on memorial plaques in the architectural memorial complex near the Nativity of the Virgin Church, where there is also a sculpture of the Apostle Andrew the First-Called, the patron saint of the Russian Navy, whose monument is the dominant feature of the memorial complex.
Those present expressed the hope that the bust of the righteous Admiral Theodore Ushakov and the Alley of Admirals, which he founded, would serve as a reminder of the glorious past of the Russian navy and inspire military feats of service to it.
