More than a thousand participants, including youth, families, and activists, took to the streets of Bucharest for the 16th annual “March for Life 2026,” organized with the support of the Romanian Orthodox and Catholic Churches. This year’s event carried the slogan “Solidarity for Both,” emphasizing support for both mothers and their unborn children, according to the Romanian Church news agency basilica.ro.
At the opening, Teodora Diana Paul, president of the “Students for Life Bucharest” organization, said: “We don’t say, ‘It’s your choice, figure it out alone.’ True freedom comes from solidarity, and solidarity gives women the strength to care for their child.”
The march concluded with a rally and concert featuring children’s choirs and well-known performers. A particularly moving moment, called “The Story of the Heart,” demonstrated how a child’s heart forms weeks after conception, culminating in the sound of an unborn child’s heartbeat through a portable ultrasound.
Speakers shared personal stories on stage, emphasizing the role of partners and community in supporting mothers. One participant said, “A woman’s decision to keep her child often depends on the man beside her. If she feels her partner won’t shirk responsibility, in most cases she chooses life.” Mara Epuraș from the Mother Support Center added, “A mother needs more than a roof over her head; she needs people, community, and a safe place to begin a new life.”
Romanian Patriarch Daniel offered his blessing for the march, noting that the event strengthens the recognition of life as a gift from God. Catholic Archbishop Aurel Percă highlighted that the initiative aims to support women and children not only in words but through practical action.
Organizers and church leaders emphasized the social dimension of the march: to assist expectant mothers and demonstrate that responsibility and care are both personal and communal commitments.
