On August 18, the Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, Metropolitan Konstantin of Cairo and Northern Africa, performed a minor consecration of a new church dedicated to the holy unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian in the village of Mulovolo, Kenya.
After the service, the bishop consecrated motorcycles and cattle that had been provided to local clergy with the support of Russian benefactors, according to the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa.
The church was established in a parish that, after transitioning to the Russian Orthodox Church, for a period lacked a permanent place for worship. Believers gathered under a tent and simultaneously raised funds to purchase land and build a church.
Construction began in November 2025. Earlier, with the participation of the Russian Church, the parish acquired a plot of land and then had the foundation stone consecrated for the future church. With the works now completed, the community has received a permanent location for worship.
Following the liturgy, Metropolitan Konstantin congratulated the parishioners on the consecration of the church and presented them with a set of liturgical altar coverings. He also held a meeting with clergy from the Vihiga deanery, which included Russian seminary students currently on vacation in Kenya.
A separate part of the visit focused on supporting rural parishes. With help from Russian benefactors, clergy received motorcycles needed for travel between remote communities, as well as cows. The metropolitan consecrated the equipment and livestock that were delivered.
