The 21-day pilgrimage of the miraculous Hawaii Icon of the Mother of God through the United Kingdom and Ireland concluded this week, as reported by the website of the British and Western European Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.
On Tuesday, the final service was held in London before the wonderworking icon, with a Vespers service and Akathist prayer led by Bishop Irinej of London and Western Europe. He was joined by clergy from the cathedral and other dioceses, including Antiochian, Bulgarian, and Serbian representatives. This event was particularly emotional for those in attendance, as highlighted in the report.
During its 21-day stay in Europe, the icon made its first visit to Ireland. It was brought to Dublin, and then transported to the parish of St. Colman in Stradbally, where it was met with a warm welcome by local clergy and faithful, including parishioners from Northern Ireland and other parts of the island.
Hundreds of Orthodox Christians gathered for the service, including those who traveled from the UK. All attendees had the opportunity to be anointed with the holy myrrh abundantly flowing from the icon and received small copies of the image as mementos of the event.
Father Nectarios Youngson, who accompanied the icon, shared stories about its miracles and travels. The next day, the icon was returned to its Hawaiian parish in the United States, concluding its 21-day pilgrimage, which included visits to cities in the UK, Ireland, Switzerland, France, Belgium, and Italy.
