The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church has included the name of Saint Olga of Alaska in its monthly calendar, according to its journals, which were published on the website of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The next meeting of the Synod was held on October 30 at the Danilov Monastery in Moscow.
"To include the name of Saint Olga of Alaska in the calendar of the Russian Orthodox Church with the definition of celebrating her memory on October 27/November 9," the magazines say.
Olga O'michael was born in 1916 in the village of Kvetluk in Alaska, came from the Yupik Eskimo people and was given the name Arsamkuk at birth, Olga at the time of baptism. She became famous for her mercy and compassion, was engaged in charitable activities, and took care of women who had been subjected to violence.
She was canonized in 2023 and canonized in Anchorage in the summer of 2025. Her memory will be celebrated annually on October 27/November 9.
The Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church has included the first saint from North America in the calendar.
