Bishop Herman of Sochi and Tuapse celebrated the Divine Liturgy on the site of the ruined church of the Holy Trinity monastery demolished in 1922. In August, 2021, Sochi city authorities handed over the plot of land to the local Russian Orthodox diocese, and they promised to restore the place.

Holy Trinity monastery, built in a suburb of Adler in 1902, had 110 monks, a wooden church, two two-storey dwelling houses, and a large fruit garden. The Sochi government says they will restore not only the buildings, but also the fruit garden and the vineyard. They said they will also build a road. “This is an important day for our religious community,” the Sochi vice-mayor Galina Moskaleva was quoted as saying. “We are witnessing the start of the revival of a monastery that stood here for only 20 years in the past century.”

The newly built monastery shall be consecrated to the Holy Trinity, and to the great feast of the Transfiguration. “This is for all those years people were coming to the site, lighting candles, and praying. Now we shall rebuild the monastery by a joint effort, to pray here for our land, for those who live here, and for those who come here to stay. God willing, we shall revive the holy place that used to be here,” Bishop Herman said.
