The Holy Synod of the Polish Orthodox Church has called on believers to pray for an end to the divisions within world Orthodoxy.
The issue was discussed at the Synod’s autumn meeting in Warsaw, chaired by Metropolitan Sawa of Warsaw and All Poland. At the end of the meeting, the bishops said the situation in the Church remained difficult and tense.
In a statement, the Synod said divisions over the church situation in Ukraine had further complicated the current state of Orthodoxy. The bishops said deep faith and earnest prayer for the unity of the Church could help overcome the crisis.
The meeting also covered relations with the Ecumenical, Bulgarian and Georgian Patriarchates, as well as ecumenical activity.
The bishops discussed the Church’s internal life and religious education in schools. They also reviewed reports on the work of a social fund and on meetings of monastics and church singers.
The Synod decided that World Orthodox Youth Day will be held in Gdańsk from February 10 to 14, 2027.
