Siberian priest calmly relates tales of battle with the legions of evil. 

Film director Dmitry Kabanov from Novosibirsk has made a documentary about Father Vasily, parish priest of St. John the Warrior church in Kuzbass. The church is aptly named, for there Father Vasily does battle regularly with the demonic host. 

Father Vasily is an exorcist, and the film follows him as he performs this task, along with other parish duties and he speaks about episodes from his rather eventful life as an exorcist. The autotranslated subtitles work tolerably well. 

Fr. Vasily has been performing exorcisms for 25 years, after coming to the church himself aged 29. He discovered a series of violent headaches he had subsided when he attended the services, and eventually he found himself more and more attracted to the church until he was ordained. 

"When we live, we do not keep the Lord's commandments, we commit some sins... And the Lord punishes, gives such a disease. A demon settles in him, and begins to torment him. Doctors can't cure it. This is treated only in the church, " Father Vasily shared. 

Director Dmitry Kabanov claims the footage can get so creepy because none of it is staged; it is all actual footage of actual exorcisms. 

Father Vasily claims there are times the demons get aggressive to try to distract him from the prayers, such as a time a girl lit his beard on fire with a candle. But he soldiered on. He also admitted that performing such services over and over has affected his health. "I'm sick, but I don't show it," he said, noting that the health of parishioners is more important.
