On May 11, 2025, in the 4th Week after Easter, the Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, Metropolitan Veniamin of Minsk and Zaslavl, led a solemn divine service in the city of Turov on the occasion of the 1020th anniversary of the founding of the Diocese of Turov. This year also marks the 895th anniversary of the birth of St. Cyril, Bishop of Turov.,
The episcopate, clergy, government representatives, guests and pilgrims met the head of the Belarusian Exarchate at the monument to the soldiers of the Great Patriotic War, from where they marched in a procession to the monument to the 1000th anniversary of the founding of the Diocese of Turov. Metropolitan Veniamin, together with the archpastors, laid flowers at these monuments. After a minute of silence, "Eternal memory..." was proclaimed at the monument to the soldiers, then the solemn procession headed to Castle Hill to participate in the festive service.
The Divine Liturgy, led by the Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, was celebrated in the pavilion above the foundation of the ancient Cathedral of the Bishops of Turov, destroyed by an earthquake in the 13th century.
During the Liturgy, Metropolitan Veniamin, after the exclamation "Look down from heaven, O God, and see...", overshadowed all the worshippers with the altar cross of Turov, which was recreated on the model of the memorial crosses of Byzantine and ancient Russian churches based on archaeological finds of the XII-XIII centuries at the Turov settlement. On Easter Day, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko donated this cross to the Turov Cathedral. After a special litany, His Eminence the exarch offered a prayer for peace.
The sermon before Communion was delivered by the acting dean of the Kalinkovichi district, Priest Sergiy Karpovich.
After the dismissal, all the participants of the celebrations proceeded to the monument to St. Cyril of Turov, where the saint was glorified.
Bishop Leonid of Turov and Mozyr addressed the audience with a welcoming speech. He cordially thanked Metropolitan Veniamin for his visit on this festive day for the diocese and presented the Patriarchal Exarch with an icon of St. Cyril of Turov. Then the welcome address was announced on behalf of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee and the Zhitkovichi district executive committee.
His Eminence the exarch congratulated the clergy, guests and pilgrims on the holiday, thanked them for their joint prayer and addressed everyone present with a word of edification. In honor of the 1020th anniversary of the Diocese of Turov, at the request of Bishop Leonid, Metropolitan Veniamin presented letters of the Patriarchal Exarch to a number of lay people who had worked hard for the glory of the Holy Church. In prayerful memory, Metropolitan Veniamin presented an icon to the diocese.
On this day, government representatives, clergy and visiting pilgrims were able to visit the exhibition "Chrysostom, who shone above all others," which featured decorative and applied arts, art drawings, folk crafts, book and church literature. Also on this day, a festive concert program was held on the occasion of the 1020th anniversary of the revival of the Diocese of Turov and the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory.

One of the most ancient episcopal sees of the Russian Orthodox Church, the diocese of Turov is the second oldest among the Orthodox dioceses of Belarus. It appeared a little later than the Polotsk diocese and included vast territories now belonging to the Minsk, Gomel, Grodno and Brest regions.
By the 12th century, Turov was not inferior to Polotsk, Novgorod and Kiev in terms of greatness, state influence and the fruits of spiritual enlightenment. Among the surviving witnesses of this heyday is the foundation of the great cathedral of the Bishops of Turov, discovered at the Turov Castle during archaeological excavations in 1963. Nowadays, a museum complex has risen above this foundation, where one can come into contact with the unique heritage of ancient Orthodoxy.
Two of the Turov hierarchs, Bishop Cyril and his successor Bishop Laurentius, have been glorified by the Church as saints. St. Cyril of Turov is especially deeply revered by the locals, whose memorial day (April 28/May 11) is traditionally a spiritual and public holiday throughout Polesie.
